Oligohydramnios Causes & Solutions By Dr CHOI Seo-hyun

During pregnancy, amniotic fluid volume varies.

It starts from around 30 cc at 10 weeks,

peaks at 800-1000 cc in late pregnancy, and decreases towards delivery. Maintaining optimal levels is vital for both mother and fetus.

Oligohydramnios occurs when there's insufficient amniotic fluid during pregnancy, affecting about 1% of pregnancies. Clinically, it can be identified when the amniotic fluid index is below 5 cm or when the largest amniotic fluid pocket measures less than 2 cm.

Oligohydramnios can be caused by membrane rupture resulting in amniotic fluid leakage, pregnancies that have gone past their due date, fetal abnormalities like growth delay or placental insufficiency, maternal health conditions such as hypertension, and instances where identical twins share a placenta.

Administer fluids intravenously, address any underlying health conditions, and ensure adequate hydration.
